My Favorites of 2014

The brand new year has started, so here's my favorites of this past year!

Remember, my music favorites have their own post, and this year I'm doing a video about my book favorites, so you're only seeing the top book! Make sure to subscribe to my channel to see me post it this coming Wednesday!

BOOK

Batman: Night of the Owls
I'll go into more detail in my video, but basically I became a Batman fanatic this year, and it's all thanks to this amazing book. Nothing topped it, and it's remained at number one since May.

MOVIES

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies
Sitting at Number 1 once again is The Hobbit, with the last trip into Middle Earth, The Battle of the Five Armies. It's beautiful, it's powerful, it's sad. I love it. I laughed, I cried, and BOY did my heart get ripped out.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier
This is perhaps my favorite Marvel film so far. It also rips your heart out, has enough hilarity to keep the film from being too dark, and tons of awesome action. Steve steps it up in this one.

Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox
You wanna talk about getting your heart ripped out? Watch this film. We enter an alternate universe and BOY is it messed up. Best part? Batman cries. Only time in canon. EVER.

TV SHOWS

Girl Meets World
This wouldn't have sat at number one if we didn't have the Christmas special. But we did. And MAN! This show is AWESOME! We battle bullying, ignoring those of a lesser station, messed up family dynamics, honesty, and then, in the last episode for Christmas, see how it connects with Boy Meets World. I'm DYING for the next episode, and season 1 isn't even over!!!

Sherlock
I lover this show. I may have mentioned this last year, and I've mentioned it TWICE in monthly favorites, but I LOVE THIS SHOW. Sherlock is a modern take of the old story, and it is PERFECTION. Each season (which is 3 episodes long, DANG IT) gets better and better, and each episode gets better and better!!! I adore it so much!

Gotham
Now I'm WAY behind on Arrow (one and half seasons, anyone?) but I'm up to date on this AMAZING take on Batman. Now, the movies tend to be lacking in the accuracy department, but Arrow is so well done, I had to check this show out. I'M SO GLAD I DID. It's phenomenal, and like Girl Meets World, it's just getting started!!!

VIDEOS

(there's 5 so stay with me)

Always - #LikeAGirl
This video is powerful. It asks a big question: why is "like a girl" an insult? I love that this makes me think about it.

Maysoon Zayid - I Got 99 Problems... Palsy is Just 1
This video is a long one, so be ready for it, but it's worth a watch. Maysoon talks about battling Palsy and how she doesn't let it hold her back. I love it.

Lindsey Stirling - Dragon Age
Lindsey's known for her music and her dance moves, but this video is a little different. This time it's more about the amazing special effects. I love this video and found it really amazing, despite the short length. She really oneups herself with each vid, am I right?

ThePerksOfBooks - Confessions of a Bookreader
In case you missed the memo, but I've joined up with two online communities all about books, Booklr (Tumblr) and BookTube (YouTube). This is one of the MANY BookTube videos I've discovered, but I felt this one had to be shared, because it's funny and SO ACCURATE!!! XD

Simon's Cat - The Box
I also discovered this gem. Simon is a illustrator who decided to combine the worst of his four felines into Simon's Cat. Each video is hilarious, and when I want a laugh, I have to watch one of his videos.

MAKEUP

Clinique Moisture Surge CC Cream
It is rare that anything truly matches my pasty skin. I have yet to find a concealer during the winter, but THIS matches my skin right now PERFECTLY!!! It's great for when my skin's all dried out, and provides quite a bit of coverage. I just can't use moisturizer, and make sure to let it set for about 5 minutes. But once it's set, it's locked in place and lasts all day! Best thing for my whole face since Revlon's Colorstay Foundation!

Mary Kay Eyeshadow in Emerald
I actually purchased this a while ago, but never really got around to using it. This year I won a bunch of Mary Kay makeup, and it's theme was greens and purples. I got this along with another item on this list, and another eye shadow. I really found myself reaching for it over and over. I'm definitely going to be using this more in the future, though with the heavy lilac and gold shimmers in it (not pictured) it's more of a spring and summer shadow.

Maybelline's The Rocket
Okay, this came out LAST year, but I did find myself loving it. However, it's a really wet formula, so The Falsies is still my fav, but this is the only other mascara I haven't ended up hating.

Mary Kay Lipstick in Mystic Plum
This is the other Mary Kay item I mentioned earlier, and BOY do I LOVE IT! Purple lipsticks were on trend this fall and winter season, and I've actually wanted one for a while. Got this one for free and not only is a beautiful, flattering shade, but it also incredibly moisturizing. That makes it perfect for my dried out lips I battle every season.

Boots Botanics Soothing Eye Makeup Remover
If you saw my post about how I have NEVER found a good eye makeup remover that doesn't burn my eyes or coat them in a film of oil (SO annoying), then you should know that this stuff must be amazing. And it IS!!!! I lover it and use it all the time on my makeup. It can even get rid of that stupid strong Rocket!!!

Hada Labo Skin Plumping Gel Cream
Another thing I've had trouble with is moisturizer. My oily, acne prone skin is sensitive and practically nothing doesn't clog my pores. What doesn't affect all that tends to not moisturize, or prevent wrinkles at all. UNTIL THIS STUFF! I dunno what it's made of, but BOY does it get my wrinkles GONE! I've been battling crows feet for a while thanks to squinting in the harsh Arizona sun, but this, combined with constantly wearing glasses has made them decrease SO MUCH!!! I love this stuff, and a tiny amount mixed in with my regular moisturizer seems to do wonders for the rest of my face!

MOMENTS

Number One has GOT to be finishing Warrior! Okay, it's just a rough draft, but this is FIVE YEARS of HARD WORK and carpal tunnel right here! I'm so proud of myself!

Another highlight had to be seeing Lindsey Stirling live in concert again! I did it completely alone, and while it would've been a LOT better to see it with my friends, doing it alone really was pushing me outside of my comfort zone.
Also, note to self: NEVER go to a concert on an empty stomach again, you almost passed out.

My third and final moment: GETTING A CAR! THANK YOU RAY I LOVE YOU TO PIECES! Her parents got a new car, so they gave their old one to Ray, and she gave me hers! It's running fine now, and I love not feeling so trapped! Plus, with my new job if I get hunger I CAN GET FOOD!! YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW AWESOME THAT IS FOR ME!!!

PERSON

Robin Williams
Losing this amazing man was devastating for me and the rest of this country, even world wide. He was so amazing, so wonderful, and yet a mental illness took his life. I will make sure to watch his final film with a smile on my face, and probably wiping away yet more tears.

RANDOM

A Very Different Little Mermaid
Finally here's the last item, from this past month, actually. Again, right click to open it in another tab so you can read the amazing talent of this person. They change up the tragic Little Mermaid fairy tale from Hans Christian Anderson, and instead make it about Ariel finding herself and her place in this world. It's really creative and powerful, have to recommend it!

That's it! 2014 is officially over and 2015 is here. Look forward my special music post coming soon, as well as my top ten books on my BookTube Channel!

I hope you had a good year, changed for the better, and that this year will be even better!

Monthly Favorites ~February 2014~

Hey guys!

Wow, February is officially over and March, the month of my birthday, is upon us!

Lots of amazing things happened this month. I finished my novel on February 13th, and as of today, all chapters except the prologues are officially offline. I will be publishing it this year, whether that's through a publishing company or through Create-A-Space/Amazon.com. It's coming out this year (or when the publishing company's ready), so be prepared!

I'm also going to be starting a YouTube channel. Well, I've had one since 2006, but I'm actually going to start making videos, starting later today! I'll post about each video I upload, never fear! You'll finally get to see me freak out over books and stories and rant about dumb authors. Okay, getting a little too excited here. I'll save it for later!

BUT! Enough about the future! Time for a look back!

BOOKS

WARRIOR!
*ahem*
Okay, not. Not yet!

House of Hades by Rick Riordan
Rick Riordan has done it again. Another beautiful masterpiece has been unleashed upon us.
Okay, getting a little cheesy here...
Regardless, this book is amazing. Seriously amazing. And I will expand upon that in the video review I plan on doing! :)

TV SHOW

Sherlock Season 3
I think I labeled the season finale for season 2 last month, but this season BEATS THAT! By like, a LOT! I've yet to see the season's final episode, but so far I've been blown away. Love this to pieces!!!

MOVIE

Percy Jackson and the Olympians: Sea of Monsters
I know a lot of people don't like this movie, but why? I don't get it. My dad, who loathed the first one likes this one! It's really well done. I do miss Percy turning into a guinea pig, but I think it flows well. Super fan, right here!

VIDEOS

Okay, I've got three this time.

First up is from the BookTuber (no, I didn't type that wrong) PolandBananasBooks, who I'll discuss more in a second. This perfectly explains my frustration with Barnes and Nobel, and the fact that Borders--my favorite place in the world--went out of business.
Also, check out her video about Book Scoffers, which I totally get too!

This next video is incredibly inspiring. It's why I decided to do the YouTube/BookTube channel now. It's called #GirlsCan: Women Empowerment. If you're a girl, or a dad, or just curious, you MUST watch this video! Totally showing my girlfriends this today!

Last but not least is a hilarious sketch from Facebook. As such, I can't embed it and put it up here, but I can give you the link. You've got to see this. I found it hilarious and was almost crying at the end! XD

YouTuber

PolandBananasBooks
This girl is super funny. She got me into "BookTube", YouTube channels all about books. She's so hilarious! There's a reason I posted not one, but two of her videos this month! I've been watching her non-stop since I found her by sheer accident. A very happy accident!

MUSIC

To be honest I've been listening to all my favs from last month, but I did find some new ones that I've put into the mix all month long!

Christina Perri - I Don't Want to Break
This image is from the lyric video, FYI. This video is as raw and honest as the rest of Ms Perri's videos. Love it!

Amy and Ellen - Glitter Stained Dress
(No, I couldn't find a bigger image)
These girls are just 16, have been making videos for years, and now released this beautiful song! I love it to death, and have been playing over and over again!

Family Force 5 - Cray Button

This song is super catchy, upbeat, and been in my head since I first heard it. Never heard of these guys, but this song is so addicting! Had to add it in!

RANDOM

And to finish things off, this had me rolling with laughter for a long time after I first saw this. Seriously, funniest gif EVER! LOL!!!

So that was my February!

Do anything amazing? Surprise yourself? Find something inspirational? Let me know!
(I know this is going to mess up, but whatevs)

Warrior: Prologue 2 - Thirteen Years Later

This is the second prologue, where Kana, Mabyn, Eirren, and St. Margarete's are introduced, as well as both main villians. One will be obvious, but the other, good luck trying to figure it out! :)

Hope you enjoy it!

Prologue Two

Thirteen Years Later

Kana stared at the gates that opened to her new home. Instead of feeling welcoming, the twisted metal gates made Kana think she was being led down into the depths of hell. Seeing the pristine—aka fake—desert landscaping and plain concrete walls, Kana wondered why the court had sent her here. She stared at the lettering above across the gates that chillingly reminded her of the Auschwitz death camp:

ST. MARGARETE’S SCHOOL FOR CRIMINAL CHILDREN

The twelve-year-old looked at the words blankly, her stomach in knots. She was unsure of her chosen future at that moment, and wondered if the freedom of the streets would have been better. But it was too late.

"Don’t look at it like that, kid," Officer Ramirez said as the Child Protective Services caseworker parked the black SUV in the pick-up zone. "This place is a lot better than juvie, believe you me.

That’s debatable, Kana thought but she knew better than to tell him that. She simply followed him inside, and got a good look at the place that was soon to be her "home."

The front office was less than welcoming. Kana had never seen such a drab room. Hospitals had more color. The floor was a pristine white tile that shined (How do they keep it clean?), and gray walls with pale blue trimmings completed the depressing look. There were no pictures, no trophies, or posters to bolster up student’s spirits. Nothing to ease a new student’s worries.

I hope the rest of the school is so ugly. Or depressing. Kana internally scoffed. Doubtful.

The people were little better. Everyone was in uniform, even the adults. The students were in white dress shirts with ties, even the girls. The boys were in gray slacks with sweater vests in a plaid, or a straight, blue-gray blazer. The girls were in matching vest and blazers with plaid skirts. The adults wore something similar. But what truly made the place unbearably was that no one was smiling. Even the smiles at Officer Ramirez and the caseworker were less than sincere.

"Mrs. Casey, Officer Ramirez, how are you?" The scary looking woman at the front counter said, one of those fake smiles plastered on.

Feeling depressed, Kana ignored them as Mrs. Casey explained Kana’s situation. The redhead looked about for something other than her life to focus on, and noticed two girls were being escorted deeper into the building by a burly security guard. The man eyed the two as if they were demons. One girl was African-American with frizzy hair, and the other was a white girl with hardest eyes Kana had ever seen off the streets. They were both holding hands, and eyed everyone as if expecting a fight. Both noticed Kana, and their expressions changed from being so guarded. Frizzy’s face suddenly looked sad, while Hard Eyes glanced at Kana’s escorts and glared. Then the two of them were pushed down the hall and out of sight.

Before Kana, could do more than wonder, What was that about? Officer Ramirez called out, "Sarien?"

Kana grimaced. She hated her first name.

"Please, call me Kana," she answered, looking back at them. She saw the office woman looked a little angry, but Mrs. Casey and the officer ignored her comment.

"This is Ms. Ianui," he said, not noticing the woman’s icy stare. "She is in charge of enrollment and attendance." He paused and eyed Kana. She had missed almost all of fifth and sixth grade. "She will be watching you."

Great, she thought. Just what I need, another gargoyle breathing down my neck!

"Everything is been taking care of," Mrs. Casey assured her. "So you just listen to what Ms. Ianui and the other teachers and headmasters say, and then maybe you’ll get to go home soon–"

"I’m never going home," Kana interrupted.

Thunderous silence. Both Mrs. Casey and Officer Ramirez looked a little sad, but Ms. Ianui simply tapped her fingernails on the gray blue counter.

"Perhaps," Ms. Ianui said, no warmth in her voice, "a few years in this school might change her mind."

Kana did not respond.

"Well, I’ve no doubt you’ll do the best you can," Officer Ramirez said, his cheerful smile back. "You’re in good hands here, Sarien."

"Kana," she corrected, her voice flat.

The policeman put his hand on the young woman’s shoulder.

"Look," he said softly, "if you do well here, it will be less of a prison, and more of a home."

Kana took a deep breath. She honestly didn’t know what she wanted. But…

"I’m never gonna be happy here," she said, her eyes on the spotless white floor.

"Well, it’s better than where you were, and a lot better than where you were headed," he replied. "Home is where your heart is, and if you fight against this place for no reason, you’re setting yourself up for failure."

Kana remained silent, still staring at the floor. The officer went to put his hand on her chin and she looked up.

"Please, try?" He asked her. "For me?"

"Okay," Kana said softly.

Officer Ramirez patted her shoulder and grinned. "Well, Mrs. Ianui –" he started.

"Ms. Ianui," she corrected.

"Sorry, Ms. Ianui," he continued. "We’re leaving Sari—Kana," he corrected automatically, seeing Kana’s wince, "in your capable hands. I’ll see you around, kid," he said to the preteen. He gave her a big hug, and then walked out with Mrs. Casey.

Kana never saw either of them ever again.

~ ~ ~

The moment Officer Ramirez and Mrs. Casey left, Ms. Ianui’s façade disappeared and the gremlin lurking beneath, surfaced.

"So, Sarien –" She started with a glower.

"Kana," the redhead corrected automatically.

The woman’s scowl darkened.

"Do not interrupt me, young woman," Ms. Ianui snapped, her almost black eyes bearing into Kana’s green ones. "Is your name Sarien Rossi or not?"

"Yes, but––"

Gargoyle Lady interrupted her.

"Then that is how I will address you," the older woman growled. "You were sent here only to learn how worthless you truly are, and to be obedient, something you obviously lack. Now you will go sit over there," she said, pointing to an empty sitting area, "in silence until a student comes by to assist you with getting your things together. Is that clear, Sarien?"

"Yes," Kana answered softly.

Then she did as she was told and slumped into a blue–gray chair. Her stomach churned with anger and frustration, but she didn’t follow her instinct of responding to every insult she received with flying fists. But she thought about it. In detail.

Several minutes slowly ticked by. Ms. Ianui remained seated behind the front desk, seeming to only be working on her computer. Kana continued to repeat what Officer Ramirez said to her, but after talking to Gargoyle Lady, she wasn’t sure that was true.

After what felt like an eternity—it was only fifteen minutes—of waiting, a beautiful girl came in. She looked like an Irish supermodel with her fire-engine hair and sky-blue eyes. Her curvy frame filled out the uniform just right, making it look like it was made specifically for her. When she spotted Kana, her pale face lit up – not with joy, though she smiled, but with some other emotion that left Kana feeling uneasy. The girl headed over to where Kana sat and held out her hand, a perfect smile beaming.

"Hi, you must be Sarien," she said.

"Kana," Kana automatically responded before she could stop herself. She saw Gargoyle Lady raised its ugly head and glared at her, but the other girl’s smile only grew.

"Okay, Kana," she said. "My name is Irene McKennon. I’m your schedule buddy."

"My what?" Kana asked, taking Irene’s hand.

"Your schedule buddy," Irene repeated. "I’m gonna be in all your classes" Great, Kana, thought— "and help you settle in here." Irene’s eyes flashed as she leaned in over Kana and said softly, "Stick with me, and you will own this school."

Still confused, Kana followed Irene down a hallway. There were offices on either side that seemed to be for school counselors. One in a corner had students seated outside of it, looking miserable. The sounds of someone yelling and blows being struck came out of the door. Alarmed, Kana looked at Irene.

"What is that office?" Kana asked, her voice a little louder than she wanted it to be.

Irene paused, and looked over at it. "Oh," she said cheerfully, "that’s the Punishment Office"

Kana’s eyes widened. "The what?"

"The Punishment Office," Irene repeated, with that gleam in her eyes. "It’s actually an assistant principal’s office, but everyone calls it the Punishment Office because you only go there to be punished."

"What kind of punishment?" Kana asked.

"Oh, every kind," Irene answered, still sounding perky. Kana stared at her for a moment before the chipper girl laughed. "Every kind a school can do to a kid."

Kana’s stomach dropped.

I ran away from abuse, now I’m sent to a school where they beat kids?! She thought, trying to swallow the bile that leapt into her mouth. But what really made her sick was how…happy Irene was. There was…wicked gleam in her eyes, and her smile was genuine, as if others pain made her giddy with delight.

Irene pulled Kana out of her thoughts by placing a perfectly manicured hand on her shoulder.

"If you stick with me, Kana, you won’t have to worry about it," the beauty said soothingly. "There is a ranking system here, and only Blacks—the lowest rank—have to deal with that," she pointed at the corner office, where the depressed boy sat, "on a regular basis. Coppers, the most common rank, rarely have to sit there. Silvers and Golds never have to put up with it." Irene turned and continued walking, and talking. "I’m a Gold," she explained as Kana stepped up beside her again. "And if you stick with me, you’re sure to be a Silver."

Irene paused again, this time beside another student who was cleaning the floor. Irene was looking at him with utter disgust.

"This is all worthless Blacks are good for," Irene said, glaring at the blonde boy. "Cleaning up trash, and getting in the way."

"Go to hell, Irene," the kid snarled, jumping to his feet.

"Better watch your mouth, Jaden," Irene said darkly, "or you might end up back there with your big brother." She jerked her head back, pointing at the Punishment Office.

Jaden hesitated, his green eyes narrowing in his hand clenching into fists. Irene smiled triumphantly and moved past. Kana didn’t follow. Noticing her lack of presence, Irene turned around, her eyes narrowed. Kana opened her mouth, but before she girl could speak, two girls rushed past her and stood beside Jaden on either side. It was Hard Eyes and Frizzy.

"Don’t worry, Jaden," Frizzy said calmly."

"Harassing kids for fun again, Irene?" Hard Eyes asked. "I thought you were a little old for that."

"It’s all she could think of to do in her spare time," Frizzy replied.

"I’m surprised to see you two," Irene said, folding her arms. "I thought the two of you were in the Punishment Office for sneaking out."

"Eh, they couldn’t prove nuthin’ and couldn’t keep their stories straight," Hard Eyes said, a smirk on her face. "A couple wacks on the knuckles ain’t gonna keep us from helping a friend in need. So how about you and your flunky continue with your tour of this hellhole?"

"I’m not her flunky," Kana exploded.

"Yeah," Irene responded. "She’s my friend."

"You don’t have friends—"Frizzy started to say, a confused look on her face, but Kana interrupted.

"I am not your friend!" She yelled. Everyone looked back at her. "I could never be friends with a—" she called Irene something that won’t be repeated, "like you!"

Irene’s eyes widened, and then she exploded.

"What did you call me?!" She bellowed.

"You heard me," Kana said defiantly. "Going around, acting like you own the place –"

"I do own this school," Irene snapped, stomping her foot like a two-year-old. "And if you better remember that!"

"Yeah?" Kana snapped back. "Well, I’ll never be like you." She paused, breathing hard and looked at the now impressed Jaden. "No one’s worthless," she finished, looking back on Irene. "Except pretty little nasties who can’t figure out how to dye their hair right."

Irene’s face was dark red. She was so angry she couldn’t formulate words. Terrified, Kana stared defiantly into the mean girl’s eyes, daring her to make a move.

"You-you…" Irene couldn’t get anything more out.

"That is enough," a deep voice said right behind Kana, startling her. She turned to see a man in a suit with long black hair pulled back and gray eyes. He was looking at her with cold disdain. "If you enjoy the Blacks so much, you shall be one. As for the buddy arrangement, I do not believe that a star student such as Miss McKennon—"

"Star student?" Hard Eyes scoffed.

"—should be burdened with taking care of a problem student," he finished, ignoring the comment. "I believe that Miss O’Conner and Miss Navarre would suffice to show this… Black, how things are for their rank."

He continued to look at Kana, his eyes making her skin crawl. As he turned on his heel to leave, Hard Eyes called out again.

"Who are you?" She asked.

"The superintendent," he responded without turning around. He turned to one of several people standing behind him that Kana assumed were school officials.

"I leave this to you, Mrs. Elroy," he said to a short, overweight woman with curly gray hair. Then he left without another glance back.

The woman he spoke to step forward, her brown eyes narrowing.

"You," she snapped at Jaden, "get back to cleaning the floor! You haven’t finished your detention! Irene," she said gently, "you can go back to now."

Then she looked at the other school officials. "Go back to your offices, I’ll handle this. As for you three…" She was growling as she looked at Kana and the other girls. "Eirren and Mabyn, you will take her to get her uniform and schedule. The two of you will be in charge of guiding her through her classes and around the school." She gave a Grim Reaper smile and said, "You will have the privilege of showing our new student how detention is done. I’ll expect all three of you in my office after dinner. Welcome to St. Margarete’s, Sarien Kana Rossi."

Then she turned on her heel and left. Annoyed and a little depressed, Kana turned to look at the others.

"You got balls, kid," Hard Eyes said, her smirk back.

"Too bad you ended up as one of us," Frizzy said.

"Eh," Kana replied, shrugging.

All three of them smiled at each other.

"I’m Eirren," Hard Eyes said. "This is Mabyn."

"I’m Kana," Kana said.

"Welcome to hell," Eirren said.

Star Warriors: Warrior - Prologue 1 - In the Late 1980's

Here is the first prologue of my lastest and main project, Warrior. I'm not sure what the series is being called, but the first three novels are named, and this one is Warrior. It's main character is Sarien Kana Rossi, a young woman with a troubled past who was sent to a school for delenquents. There she endured many hardships, but when she is fifteen, her and her two best friends and sworn sisters find themselves somewhere else: inside a video game. There they learn that they are Warriors, chosen to fight against an evil that is in every world. They must find the strength to stand up to not only a faceless evil, but the school that has ruled their lives for the past five years. This is Warrior, the story of a girl who must become a warrior, or perish in the silent war around her.

Prologue

In the Late 1980's

They were both so excited. It was their first vacation as husband and wife. Neither of them were wealthy enough to afford a honeymoon, but they had lucked into the trip of a lifetime, thanks to a radio station’s giveaway. Carol could barely contain her excitement as she looked at Bernard.

"I can hardly believe it," she stated yet again.

"I know," Bernard replied.

"I mean, Hawaii?!"

"I know!"

The two of them smiled at each other and held hands as they walked through the simple security and waited in the seating area at the terminal. Both were shaking, they were so thrilled. They were so caught up in each other and their trip that barely noticed the young man that came out of the bathroom and sat across from the two of them. The area was mostly empty as there was still quite some time before takeoff. But neither noticed anything out of the ordinary, until he pulled out a gun and pointed at Carol and said, "Now, neither of you wants to make a scene."

The couple froze. His heart pounding a mile a minute, Bernard moved to stand but the young man stated quite calmly, "You do not want to do that, sir."

Bernard stared around the room, furious, and panicking.

"You can’t do this—"

"Actually, I can," he said, a cold smile upon his lips. "And I am."

"Do you want mon—" Carol started to say.

"I have no reason to take any of your belongings," he stated calmly.

"Then what do you—" Bernard’s voice was getting louder with each word, and the young man interrupted him as well.

"I said, you don’t want to be doing that," he said. His voice had once been rather warm, but now it went cold.

Furious, and with other alternative, both remained silent. Bernard studied the man that was holding them at gunpoint. He seemed young, but his hair looked white, and his dark green eyes had a maturity to them, as if they had seen a hundred lifetimes. Bernard came to the horrifying conclusion that he could, and would, kill them if they didn’t do what he said. Hoping for some help, Bernard looked around the room. No one was looking at them. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary. As he watched, the lady at the counter announced, "Flight 243 will now be boarding at Terminal D3."

"Look, this is our flight," Bernard said, his voice tight, "So, how abo—"

"You’re not going anywhere."

Bernard stared at the man, too furious to speak. Carol, who was very pale, couldn't help but mutter, "This is ridiculous."

"This is the way it is, ma’am," the man responded, his green eyes never leaving the two of them.

Bernard didn't understand. No one was stopping to stare; no security was coming at a run. People were simply passing them by, as if it were a regular day. It was as if they were invisible. The minutes seemed to slow to a crawl. Both of them waited for the man to do something, or to just leave them alone. They silently prayed—something neither of them did often—that the man would make his intentions clear and let them go. But he said nothing more, and the gun did not lower. Bernard continued to stare into the man’s eyes, but they did not waver.

After around twenty minutes of the stalemate, the final call was made and passed, and their flight finished boarding. Carol began to cry as their plane readied for takeoff. Bernard held her, glaring at the man over her head. That’s when he noticed, there was no gun in the man’s hand.

"You’re letting us go?" Bernard growled. "Now? After we miss our flight?"

The man pointed out the wall of windows to the airplane as it began to move. At first that only angered them, but then Bernard heard it. The people at the counter noticed it as well: the airplane engine sounded strange. But instead of the plane powering down, and the flight being delayed due to engine trouble, the plane finished its preparations, and took off. And everyone watched in horror as it rose, and then crashed, killing everyone inside.

Carol began to tremble, and Bernard clutched her hand as the truth of what the man had been doing dawned on them amidst the horror: he was saving them. Both of them turned to look at the man with white hair, but he was gone.
