Music Favorites of 2014

Okay, in case you guys don't know, I'm a HUGE audiophile, which means I'm obsessed with music. I find time without music distracting and hard to think in. I need music to read, write, and do basic tasks. I want it quiet when I do spiritual stuff, and sleep, that's it. So of course, I listen to a LOT of it. And that means I have a lot of favorites, at least 3 songs every month, if not entire albums with a bonus song.

Before I get started, here's what Spotify has to say!

My Spotify 2014 stats ARE:
Top Genre - Pop
Top Artist - Katy Perry
                2. Megan Nicole
                3. Lindsey Stirling
                4. Demi Lovato
                5. Pentaonix
Top Album: Prism by Katy Perry
                2. Demi by Demi Lovato (not a 2014 release, can't be in MY top)
                3. Prism Deluxe by Katy Perry (don't ask me why it's stated as different)
                4. PTX, Vol. 2 by Pentatonix
                5. RECHARGED by Linkin Park
Top Playlist: Go Girl (big surprise)
Top Ten Tracks:
                1. A Light That Never Comes by Linkin Park
                2. Shatter Me by Lindsey Stirling ft. Lizzy Hale
                3. Dark Horse by Katy Perry
                4. Love Again by Pentatonix
                5. Problem by Ariana Grande
                6. Mmm, Yeah by Austin Mahone ft. Pitbull
                7. Let It Go by Idina Menzel
                8. Nightingale by Demi Lovato
                9. Really Don't Care by Demi Lovato
                10. Let It Go Armin Van Buuren Remix by Idina Menzel

Remember, these stats do go into my final choices, but not all count. If it didn't come out this year, whether as a single or on an album, it can't count. So all Demi songs are out.

NOW! Let's talk about albums! I had about 7 albums that I constantly were listening to that were new this year. So I have a top five. Sort of.

NUMBER 5

Theophany - Time's End
This is a fan remix of Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask remixes up for free HERE! I haven't really stopped listening to it since I got it!

Taylor Davis - Melodies of Hyrule
I stumbled upon a song from this album, found it on Spotify, and been obsessed ever since! It isn't 5 or 10 songs, but more than TWENTY! WOW! It's really well done, and because I couldn't choose between the two, they tie at number 5.
Told you it was 5, mostly.

NUMBER 4

Katy Perry - Prism
There's a reason Spotify named this my number 1. Not because it has the most songs I adore, in fact it's the only one where I don't play the entire thing. HOWEVER what I love is AMAZING! She's one of the two artists to have TWO tracks in my top 20, and she deserves it. What I like are smashes, and I listened to it off and on all year long.
BTW, I list it because while it came out in 2013, I heard it for the first time last year.

NUMBER 3

Lindsey Stirling - Shatter Me
THIS ALBUM IS AMAZING!!!! From the first single to the last song, it's blown me away. Lindsey is one of my favorite artists of all time, and this album did NOT disappoint. The title track is so well done, and so many others are just fantastic.

NUMBER 2

Taylor Swift - 1989
This just made the number one album of the year in terms of sales, and it barely didn't make it my number one, which I'll explain later. Every song is better than the last, and while I do skip one track, that's not because it's not brilliant, it is. It's just my kind of sound.
Come on, Taylor changed genres, her album's look, tons of things, and it's JUST as good as the others, if not BETTER!!! I adore this album and listen to it all the time!

NUMBER 1

2NE1-Crush
Okay, ya'll should've checked out my December Favorites, and if you haven't do it now! But in there I name 2NE1 as my favorite YouTuber for a good reason: the lead singing vocal, Bom Park, is being harassed by the South Korean media (this is a K-Pop or Korean Pop group, ya'll) as a "drug dealer" for taking prescription meds in the US for severe depression and anxiety. Once she moved to South Korea, she was getting it mailed in, but turns out her anti-depressants are illegal there. So she dealt with it, not a big deal, really. And the media has turned it into a circus. She's so depressed she's left the TV show she was on, as well as refusing to perform in public.
Her girls CL, Minzy, and Dara have her back, as well as her label head YG himself. But she's still depressed and scared. I don't want another amazing person to be lost to harassment. On Tumblr we've had too much of it, and I'd hate to have a repeat of Robin Williams.
This album was basically tied with Taylor's, but it's been out longer, and I got tired of hearing it all the time after. For the music alone, this deserves the number one spot. But I have to mention Bom, because I don't want another life lost to this kind of crap. We almost lost Fantasia Barrino to this, I don't want to see it again.

  1. Firstly, I liked the pictures.

Secondly, I love 1989! And Dark Horse! And Shatter Me! Both the song and the album! And the Majora's Mask image is freaky-deaky.

What's Prism? You've probably played it for me and I just don't remember...

Really? "Style" is your fave 1989 song? Huh...

Also love "Still I Fly" and "Boom Clap."
